Typical Cost Savings with Soft Water

A water softener is ONE of only TWO appliances that will save you money.  The other is a refrigerator!

You can expect a water softener to pay for itself if your water hardness is greater than 7 grains per gallon (gpg) - 120 parts per million (ppm).  The greatest cost savings will be realized when poorer quality water is treated.

You may be surprised to know that many municipal water sources provide hard water to their customers.  Typically, these range from 8 to 9 gpg and some are over 20 gpg!  So, having "city water" doesn't necessarily mean you have soft water.
